Funny Games

Some films make you ponder them, some just wash over you, both have a role in my world, but sometimes a film is tries just way too hard to make you ponder it. As a result, I sort of don’t really. There was a big tempation to try and think through all the comments this was making with its less than subtle meta silliness, but it felt a bit like when someone tells you so often to do something that you just want to tell them to fuck off, even if that thing would actually be ok to do. This is a good film, brilliantly acted, a tiny bit scary and very menacing, but the makers really insist that you take it more seriously than all that as not a horror thriller, but a comment upon horror/thriller genre cliche, which is why I’m not going to, I think its all a social commentary on the role of egg cartons in modern society.
